The firm’s principals take pride in bringing their wide range of experience and their dedication to design to each and every project. The passions of the talented, experienced, and close knit staff allow the studio to maintain quality in execution with rigorous attention to detail.
Will’s education and practice spans multiple states and three different countries. He considers the ability to bring perspective to a project as one of his primary contributions to design and management. When not at work you might find him skiing with his family, sketching, or working on one of his eternally unfinished home improvement projects.
Born in Colorado and raised in New Mexico, Lisa is a recent transplant to the Seattle area. She comes to us with a combined background in the natural sciences and in architecture. Outside of work, she enjoys knitting, surfing, snowboarding, and finding new adventures with her dog named Cat
Yuko was born and raised in Japan. For the past 15 years, she has lived and practiced in the Seattle area. She is committed to creating welcoming, social spaces and having fun throughout the process. Yuko raises vegetables in her garden and enjoys living by an urban community farm in South Seattle with her wood-worker husband and a son.
Bob is a founding principal of the firm, and has been involved in projects throughout the Pacific Northwest, British Columbia, and Hawaii. He especially enjoys collaborating with community groups and artists to create special places and structures for enjoying our parks and gardens.
Paul, a Seattle native, has practiced in the Seattle area for 35 years. He is passionate about design and always looks for creative ways to use design to realize the client's vision. Paul and his wife, both WSU graduates, have two grown children and live on Mercer Island with their Golden Retriever, Dylan.
Sean discovered his love for well-crafted design and the outdoors growing up in North Carolina. After earning his degrees in North Carolina and Georgia, Sean worked in furniture design and fabrication as well as architecture. Sean spends his free time snowboarding and hiking or rooting for his favorite sports teams – go Panthers and Seahawks!
A graduate of WSU, D’neka has worked in residential, commercial and theatrical design for 15 years and is inspired by any creative adventure. Prior to joining HWA, she has been soaking up art, food and culture while living in New York City, Honolulu and most recently, Los Angeles. Returning to the PNW, D’neka is thrilled to be surrounded by water, vibrant nature, and less crazy drivers.
Linda is originally from Utah and came to the firm after working in landscape architecture and transportation planning. She is inspired by interdisciplinary design and its ability to reach individuals and communities. Outside of the office, Linda stays connected to a Seattle-based service leadership nonprofit and enjoys baking.
Originally from Okinawa, Japan, Tony is a UW graduate and has practiced in Seattle for 15 years. Prior to joining HWA, Tony worked in environmental graphic design, where his focus was in integrating graphics and architecture. In his spare time, Tony thwarts feline raid attempts by his cat, Kafka.
Lisa has been practicing accounting in the Greater Seattle area for eighteen years, and she brings a close attention to detail in her work. She is a proud graduate of Washington State University and a big fan of Cougar Football. Lisa and her husband have five children and live on the Eastside with their dog, a beloved mutt, adopted from the Humane Society.
Kenji joined HWA in 2013 after completing his studies in Canada and Japan. He has previous work experience in Vancouver before returning home to Seattle and enjoys collaborating with clients, artists and other designers. Kenji also likes to eat and test out new recipes with his wife, Rachael.
