Modern architect, Paul Kirk, designed his own cabin on Maxwelton Beach as a one room space opening onto a large deck. Set upon piers, the structure integrated the delicate wood cabin into its tidal surroundings by allowing free movement of the storm surf to wash below it.
The addition for the new owners is a separate wing that is tied to the original cabin with a protected, sunny deck. The new wing holds two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a new entry.
Borrowing from the existing design, the addition incorporates an angular layout that characterizes the informal nature of the original cabin. It also uses the same wood post and beam materials for the structure.
