Crew ride-alongs provided valuable insight into the nuances of contemporary fire station operations.
In many cases, the existing fire stations are registered historic buildings, adding complexity to any given project. Additional challenges, as in the case of Station 24, was to design and phase the renovation while allowing the station to remain open and operational throughout construction.
Careful planning studies, close work with the planning and historic authorities, and combining spaces to have multi-functional uses were keys to achieving the goals for each fire station.
